Armani Musafar
2017
Belgrade, autumn 2017. Trying to enter the European Union, young migrants from Afghanistan spend a lot of time waiting in Serbia since they often fail at passing the borders to Hungary or Croatia. Waiting for the so-called „game“ – the dangerous attempt to cross the border – is painful. Time passes by slowly during the day and the only distractions are phone calls with friends and family or hanging around in a park in Belgrad. Together we decided to try out poses for the camera and discussed postures and shapes that seemed interesting and fun.

Lasting only for a few seconds, the human sculptures reflect the young men and boy‘s fragile state of mind. The work gave us the opportunity to catch a glimpse at each other’s world. Borhanullah, Muhammad, Mojibullah, and Dawood selected the pictures they liked most and signed them.

Armani Musafar, the title of the work, takes up a name some Afghan migrants like to use on Facebook and other social media. Armani Musafar is «the traveler in search of the desired place he will not reach».  By now the young men have found a new home in different European countries.
